The Inspiration for our canoes comes from traditional canoe lines of the past.  This particular canoe is based on the Chestnut Canoe Company’s Prospector style and was the favored canoe of
Canada
’s Bill Mason.
The Size this particular canoe is approximately 15’ long, and weighs approx. 50lbs.
The Woods used are Ash (gunnels, thwarts and seats), Cherry (decks) and Clear, Vertical Grain Old Growth Western Red Cedar (hull).
The Techniques and Finishes used are conventional strip built methods using an epoxy/ fiberglass lamination to encapsulate the wood of the hull.  The hull is laminated inside and out with fiberglass with a second layer on the exterior.  The bow and stern are fitted with Brass skid bands over two layers of steam bent ash.    The seat is a octagonal cane pattern panel with a reed border. Gunnels are tapered at bow and stern for a fine look. The interior gunnels are scuppered to show craftsmanship in detail and for drainage.  The finish used is a marine grade Spar Varnish.  All techniques and finishes are used to provide a canoe that can be enjoyed for years. This canoe is a work of art as much as a functional canoe.
