    Description

Camp McPherson  near Date Creek  Arizona Territory guarded the Prescott Road  during the Hualapai War. An original letter from Jerome  Booth at Camp McPherson, Dec 12, 1867 to his brother: the wound in his foot has commenced to heal, ha s been 2 months since I was shot, It is nice here, but summer so hot you can roast an egg in the sand, the rattlesnakes and scorpions have come out, and the wolves come into our camp at night in droves, making the worst howling, I am in low spirits. Edge cuts, stains, Overall Good. The Booth brothers both served in the Civil War  then Jerome joined the 14th US Infantry which built Camp McPherson, renamed Fort Date Creek. A letter to his brother reported his fate- he was killed by Indians in 1868 while on escort service near Walnut Grove, shot twice by gunfire to the left side and once by a arrow to the left shoulder (Ref email communication 11/10/17.
