Description

Original collage of photographs by Peter Hujar of the performance artists Ethyl Eichelberger and Agosto Machado. The central photograph shows Eichelberger with accordion, while two portraits on the right are from a series of photographs of Machado behind a tulle veil. Hujar printed a larger portrait of Machado from this same session.
This is the top half of the full original poster design for a performance on New Years Eve 1981 at s.n.a.f.u. (See the second photograph for a copy of the finished poster--not included here.) These are photographs, not xeroxed copies, glued to board and worn.  Glue residue, fingerprints, wrinkles, and smudges throughout the collage.
A unique work and record of the New York underground scene of the 1970s and 1980s. Purchased from the estate of the photographer John Benson.
